Home Maintenance and Home Repairs

Q: Can you do the work that I need completed?

A: In most instances, yes. We will naturally assess the repair, renovation or maintenance work you need done and we will let you know. We’ll be straight with you; if it’s not in one of our fields of expertise, we will say so. But that will be only for a few rare jobs that require very specialist trades and in that case we should be able to refer you on to a specialist.

Q: Do you offer Emergency Services?

A: We don’t offer emergency services but we DO offer a better value pre-arranged 24hour service.

Q: Do I need a tradesman or can I do it myself?

A: You can check this with us by telephoning ##. If we think you can do it yourself we’ll let you know. We’ll probably even give you some helpful tips in how to do it yourself.

Q: How will my home repair or home maintenance task be assessed?

A: Your job will be carefully inspected by one of our supervisors, all of whom are registered builders. They will work out the exact cost of your job using our professional in-house estimating system and forward that to you as a quote, along with a thorough written ‘scope of work’ document.

Q: What Services do you offer under Home Maintenance?

A: Because we’re an in-house team of skilled professionals covering all seven of the building industry’s major trades, we can fix, repair or replace almost anything on your house. We are not an agency so we don’t rely on others to do the work for us; our team will do the work for you.

Q: Are you going to turn up?

A: We value our own time as well as yours. We charge a fee of $55 to partly cover the cost of our supervisor visiting you and drawing up a scope of work and preparing your quote. But if for any unlikely reason we don’t turn up, we’ll send you a cheque for $55 to cover your time. That’s a promise.

Q: Is my job too small for you?

A: We specialise in small jobs. We do a large number of them, which is why we are able to do them so quickly and competitively.

Q: I’m thinking of selling my house and have some small presentation type jobs that need doing. Can you advise on what needs to be done and perform the work?

A: This is a common request and something we have developed a degree of expertise in. We have learned which jobs will add value to the resale of your house and which may not be either necessary or cost-efficient. We can advise you on both.

Q: When do I need to pay?

A: For a larger job requiring the up-front purchase of materials, we may ask for a deposit. If the work is expected to take some time to execute, we may ask for progress payments. The balance owing at the end is normally on 7 day terms, unless other prior arrangements have been made. In each case we will clearly set out the payment terms with your quote.

Q: Why Use Spinners Local Tradesman?

A: For a variety of reasons. A sample of these are listed below.

  • We take pride in striving to be the best tradespeople in our respective fields;
  • We know having unfamiliar people in your home is not always comfortable so we are sensitive to your personal needs;
  • The most useful tradespeople are never on their own; they always work with the guidance of a visiting supervisor, a central feature of our service delivery for medium and larger jobs;
  • We are accountable for every aspect of your job;
  • We provide a clear, unambiguous written guarantee;
  • We will not waste your time, we will turn up to complete your job in a timely manner;
  • We have been specialising in the building and trade management business for a long time and we’ll be here when you need us in the future;
  • We know what we are doing – we are experienced Master Builders and Registered Building Practitioners.

Q: Is Spinners Local Tradesman an agency?

A: No, we are a privately run family business. We are not a franchise nor a call centre to find tradespeople. We are an in-house group of hard-working, customer-oriented builders, project coordinators and tradesmen.

Q: Do you quote?

A: Yes, if the job you describe to us is large enough to require the assessment of one of our supervisors we will definitely give you a written quote. At the other end of the spectrum, if your job is very small, we can sometimes offer you one of our experienced tradesmen on a labour-hire basis.

Q: Are your quotes reasonably priced?

A: Many of your neighbours think we are reasonably priced. Hundreds of other people last year thought our price was acceptable. We’ve been around for several decades, so we know the importance of offering value for money to our customers. We hope you give us the opportunity of proving our good value to you.

Q: When can I expect your quote?

A: Usually within 48 hours of our supervisor’s visit. However if we require an external supplier to provide a costing on some aspect of the job it may occasionally be slightly longer. We will naturally keep you informed.

Q: What if an unforeseen problem develops during the completion of my job?

A: It’s not uncommon for problems to arise in home renovations and repairs. If we encounter any during your specific job, we will firstly keep you fully informed and detail the suitable rectification options. We specialise in problem solving. Achieving results is one of our core strengths.

Q: When can someone come to my home and quote on my repair and renovation needs?

A: The people in our office manage the supervisors’ movements and handle their diaries. All you have to do is let us know when you’re available and we will do our best to fit in with your schedule. Even if it needs to be a Saturday.

Q: When can you start?

A: Our most common starting date is ‘next week’. This is unless it’s a peak period or your job involves an unusual number of different trades. It may also take a little longer if forward-ordering of special material is required.
